Seeing the Unseen Child: Setting Aside Implicit Bias

CE Workshop with Lisa Kays, LICSW, LCSW-C, Gabriele Nicolet, MA, CCC-SLP, & Jen Dryer, MA
Online via Zoom Video

Lisa Kays PLLC invites you to attend this workshop, which will help clinical social workers and other mental health and early childhood education professionals in contact with parents to better understand the diagnostic criteria for autism and ADHD, to differentiate these diagnoses from myths that often surround them and are perpetuated by popular culture and even in some clinical settings, and to more effectively talk to parents about these criteria and refer them to appropriate resources for screening and assessment. Mental health therapists of these children’s grownups are often in a unique position of being the first level of intervention for these families when grownups present to therapy with stress, marital conflict, depression, or anxiety that can stem from parenting an undiagnosed, misunderstood neurodivergent child. With increased understanding of how these children may behave and affect a family system, these mental health practitioners may be in a position to refer grownups and their children for appropriate services that will help address the underlying issues linked to the family, individual parent’s, and couple’s stress.
